How do I merge a list of names from excel into labels on word?

I asked this before but it doesn’t want to work for me. Everything seems to work fine when I go through the steps of a mail merge but then once I get to the “Preview your labels” step everything goes blank in my labels. This is step by step of how I’m doing it: Open Word. Mail Merge. Click the button for Labels. Label options. Select the label size I want (avery 5366). Start from existing document. More files. Find the Excel file I need and click ok. Now my Labels say “Next Record” in all of them. Pass up the “write your letter” section because I don’t need it. Click Preview Labels. All the “next record” words disappear from labels. Complete the merge.

What am I doing wrong??

I’m using Office 2003, but sounds like you have an older version. Anyway these instructions should hopefully work for you:

You’re missing a step….after you’ve selected your Excel file and your labels say “Next Record”, comes the step of Arranging your labels (in other words inserting the merge fields onto the label, if you don’t insert the merge fields, there isn’t anything for the data from the Excel file to merge into). In Office 2003 these are the options that you can select from:

Greeting Line
Electronic Postage
Postal Bar Code
More Items

I usually select More Items. When you select that, you then manually insert your merge fields onto the label. You select the field you want and then click on Insert. Once you are done inserting you can then arrange the fields on the label, or you can just insert one field at a time, go back into the label and hit return and then insert another merge field.

After you insert your merge fields you click on Update All Labels………..and then you go to the next step of previewing your labels.

Semantic Role Labeling $45.13 This book is aimed at providing an overview of several aspects of semantic role labeling.
